Grealish set the record for the most expensive British player when Manchester City paid £100 million for his service from Aston Villa.
The 26 years old England international may not have hit his best form for Manchester City but He was able to show a glimpse of his potential at Manchester City when he was given the chance.
Jack Grealish was arguably England’s best performer against Germany on Tuesday at the Allianz Arena after coming on as a substitute for Mason Mount in the second half. There were calls by the English fans for Jack Grealish to start ahead of Mason Mount against Italy.
Former England international Michael Owen has also called for Jack Grealish to start in England’s next nations league fixture against Italy.
When England coach Gareth Southgate was asked if Jack Grealish is an Impact player or starter, Southgate said: “I think he can be both.
“If we didn’t trust him we wouldn’t put him on the pitch with 20 minutes to go in the belief he can make a difference.
“The start of the game, the challenge to the wide players to attack, defend, try to score goals at a high tactical level and you’ve got to be spot on.
“I think that’s an area Jack can get better at and what he did do was carry the ball and at that moment of the game as it opens up there’s a little more space, a little more opportunity, and also that freshness.
“The impact that he and Jarrod Bowen had was really important in those attacking areas. There is a good challenge there, good competition for places and we’ve got to keep pushing them.”
However. Jack Grealish claims He only does what the coach instructs him to do whether as a starter or a substitute.
What did Grealish say?
Speaking after the Germany match, Jack Grealish said:‘That’s what the manager asks me to do.
‘To go on and be me and try to create. So that’s what I did. I feel sometimes when I’m here I can try to play with as much freedom as possible. I felt like I did that on this occasion.’
Meanwhile, Jack Grealish admits that He is still acclimatizing himself to the tactics of Pep Guardiola and He is willing to contribute more to Manchester city in terms of Goals and assists.
Jack Grealish continued: “I feel at times I’ve played a bit safe at City.
“But when I come here I feel like even in training I train well. I score goals and get assists.
“When I come on the pitch… it’s hard to explain. I do feel like I play with a lot more freedom here and hopefully, I can transfer that into my club football and keep on improving.
“Pep’s a lot more structured. You can’t complain because of what he’s done in the game, and how successful he is. Whereas Gareth has a formation and a structure, he says to me if I feel like I need to go to the other side of the pitch to get the ball then go and do that.
“Hopefully I can transfer that to the City. But I went to City to win titles and that was one of the best days ever.
“I think it’s something I’ll never, ever forget because it was my first. Hopefully, it’s a little bit of relief off my shoulders, you know.
“I’ve come to the City to win stuff and that’s my first one, so hopefully a few more.”
