On Thursday the Israeli army said in a statement that the military’s aerial defence system intercepted a missile launched from Yemen following alarms sounding in several areas of Israel.
The Iran-backed Houthis have launched missiles and drones at Israel, as well as attacked many vessels in global maritime lanes, in what they claim is a show of sympathy with Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel has been at war in Gaza since October 2023, when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a deadly invasion into southern Israel. Israel has launched many retaliatory airstrikes in Yemen against Houthi targets.
The second launch in two days coincides with U.S. President Donald Trump‘s visit to the Gulf. In May, Trump established a truce with Yemen’s Houthis, which would stop attacks on US vessels.
