Arsenal Icon Ian Wright claims Arsenal missed a chance to score a goal for Arsenal before Manchester City opened the score through Kelvin De Bruyne in the 7 minutes.
The Gunners were defeated 4-1 by Manchester City to reduce their point gap at the top of the Premier League to 2 points. Manchester City scored twice in the first half through Kelvin de Bruyne and John Stone. The Belgian international scored his second goal in the second half. Rob Holding pulled one back for Mikel Arteta’s side. Still, Erling Haaland scored Manchester City’s fourth on the night to seal the three points for the Champions.
What did Ian Wright say?
Ian Wright told BBC Match of the Day: “What it was, it was the only way you were going to get something off them [City].
“You look where Jesus is [out on the left], and this is the only way Arsenal is going to get any sort of half chance. They did finally break through at one stage, and then you look at that [no Arsenal players in the City box].
‘That is where you want your striker because you are not going to get too many opportunities where are you going to be able to break into City and do that. That was five minutes in, you have to take it to put them on the back foot.’
Alan Shearer claims Erling Haaland and Kelvin De Bruyne bullied Arsenal defenders.
The Premier League all-time top scorer said on BBC Match of the Day: “They [De Bruyne and Haaland] were unplayable tonight; they bullied the two center-halves Gabriel and Rob Holding.
“Every time the ball went up, their understanding to know when, how, and where to run, the timing, and then the finish. They were never too far from each other; De Bruyne was always within five, or ten yards of Haaland.
“It was a magnificent performance from start to finish from Man City; they totally dominated in every position. Some of the play tonight was absolutely magnificent.
“Haaland was too strong, he got one goal, he could of or should of had three or four. His finishing tonight wasn’t like how it has been the rest of the season. Arsenal just couldn’t cope with them tonight, they did bully them.”
