According to a recent survey, more than one-third of American adults admit to feeling a serious sense of loneliness. And over the last couple of years, the COVID-19 pandemic has only made matters worse for many of these people.
If you would consider yourself to be a lonely person, you should make it a point to learn how to deal with loneliness. You aren’t going to be able to rid yourself of lonely feelings overnight. But you should eventually be able to figure out how to not feel lonely.
Here is some advice for loneliness that should help you out in a big way.
Stay Connected to Your Family Members and Friends
Do you feel as though you make a strong enough effort to stay in touch with your family members and friends? If you don’t connect with them on a regular basis, you should aim to change that. It’s an easy solution for how to deal with loneliness.
You don’t necessarily need to contact every family member and friend that you have every day. But you shouldn’t be shy about reaching out to them every so often. Many of them will respond by reaching back out to you in the future.
Attempt to Make New Friends Whenever Possible
In addition to keeping in contact with your family members and friends to ward off loneliness, you should also try to make new friends when you can. This might not always be easy, but it’ll be worth it in the end.
You may be able to make new friends by signing up to play a recreational sport. You might also be able to do it by joining a faith community like the Sound of Heaven Church. Trying new things could open up a whole new world to you and keep loneliness at bay.
Try Not to Spend Too Much Time on Social Media
In theory, social media should make you feel more connected to people and help you battle back against loneliness. But many studies have shown that social media can actually make people feel more lonely.
If you’re spending hours each day scrolling through your social media feeds, it could be the No. 1 reason why you feel so lonely. By getting off social media every now and then, you can stop loneliness in its tracks.
Learning How to Deal With Loneliness Can Help Combat It
If you find yourself feeling lonely every so often, it’s not that big of a deal. Everyone feels this way sometimes.
