Paris Saint-Germain have signed Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez on a five-year contract, the Ligue 1 champions announced on Sunday.
The transfer fee has not been disclosed, but according to French media, PSG paid Bayern Munich €40 million ($43.87 million) plus add-ons for the 27-year-old player.
“I’m very enthusiastic! I’ve waited a long time to join PSG, and it’s finally occurred. “Today is a very special occasion for me, and I am thrilled to be here,” Hernandez said in a statement.
According to Spanish media reports, Atletico Madrid, Hernandez’s boyhood club, will also receive a significant transfer fee.
The France international has made 107 appearances for the German league champions since his arrival in 2019; however, he only played seven league games last season due to a ruptured cruciate ligament suffered at the World Cup.
Hernandez is PSG’s fifth new addition, joining Manuel Ugarte, Lee Kang-in, Milan Skriniar, and Marco Asensio.
The club also fired manager Christophe Galtier on Wednesday and replaced him with Luis Enrique, a former coach for Barcelona and Spain.
