Career
At a very young age, Fieri began his career in the food industry by operating a roadside “Awesome Pretzel” cart. Fieri got his first professional restaurant job as a manager at Parker’s Lighthouse in Long Beach after graduating from the University of Nevada. He was good at running a business right away, and he went on to run six Louise’s Trattoria restaurants.
In 1996, he and Steve Gruber opened a business in Santa Rosa, California, named Johnny Garlic’s. The food was good enough that the franchise could open many more California locations. After becoming a Food Network celebrity in the early 2000s, Fieri continued to work in the restaurant industry. In 2012, Guy capitalized on his fame in New York City by founding Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar. Pete Wells of The New York Times wrote what is probably the most famous restaurant review of all time about this place. The restaurant closed in 2017, though.
Fieri has had more success in the years since then with places like Guy’s Burger Joint on Carnival cruise ships, Guy’s Vegas Kitchen and Bar in Las Vegas, and Guy’s Baltimore Kitchen & Bar at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. Then, in 2018, Fieri and Robert Earl opened Chicken Guy! in Orlando, Florida’s Disney Springs. Guy Fieri’s loud sense of style and fun personality made him a natural TV star, especially on cable TV, where food-related shows are always being made. In 2006, he won the second season of “The Next Food Network Star,” his major break in this industry. Thereafter, Guy’s first Food Network show, Guy’s Big Bite, launched in June 2006 and ran for 13 seasons and 190 episodes, with the final episode airing in 2016.
Fieri has remained a mainstay on the Food Network, releasing several series and specials.
In 2008, he and Marc Summers, the host of Unwrapped, worked together to host the three-season show The Ultimate Recipe Showdown. Simultaneously, the set was used for another live Thanksgiving 2008 special, Guy’s Family Feast. In the 2012 Food Network competition Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cookoff, he battled fellow Food Network personality, Rachael Ray. In 2013, he debuted Guy’s Grocery Games; in 2017, he debuted Guy’s Family Road Trip on the Food Network. In addition to his appearances on Dinner: Impossible, Paula’s Party, Ace of Cakes, and The Greatest Thing I Ever Ate, he has also been on numerous other Food Network programs.
