Granit Xhaka has joined Bayer Leverkusen from Arsenal on a five-year contract, the Bundesliga club announced on Thursday.
According to British media reports, the German club paid €25 million euros ($27.2 million) for the 30-year-old player.
Xhaka joins Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen after seven years with Arsenal in which he made 297 appearances, scored 23 goals, and assisted 29 others while helping the club win two FA Cups.
Xhaka will return to the German division after playing for Borussia Monchengladbach for four years prior to joining Arsenal in 2016.
“I am intimately familiar with the league because I followed it while in London. “Bayer 04 is a club with an illustrious past and ambitious goals,” remarked Xhaka.
“I see it primarily as a club with a bright future. Everyone here is ambitious and wishes to accomplish something; I look forward to the coming years.”
