Rio Ferdinand has urged Graham Potter to raid his former club Brighton to sign Belgian international Leandro Trossard in January.
The 27-year-old will be out of contract in June 2023. The Brighton forward had been in excellent form this season. He scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists in 12 outings for the Seagulls so far this season.
Chelsea are reported to be interested in Belgian and the rumors may be true because of Graham Potter’s relationship with Leandro Trossard. The blues are not the only club interested in Leandro Trossard, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also interested in him.
However, Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he would be surprised if Graham Potter did not sign the Brighton star for Chelsea in January.
What did Rio Ferdinand?
The Manchester United legend said via his Youth Channel, Vibe with Five: “Trossard, he’s one of the players I’ve heard there hasn’t even been a bid for him since he’s been there, someone told me,’ Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.
“This guy is doing major bits right now. If Potter doesn’t go back there to try and sign him I’d be amazed.
“The best part of his game is being creative. He’s just scored a few goals lately, that’s not even his game.
“I think the creativity and the approach played in his game is unreal. The only thing I was asking for before was a bit more end product and he’s actually doing that now.”
Meanwhile, Tony Cascarino has urged Chelsea to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang next season.
Tony Cascarino said on TalkSports: “I’m not even sure Aubameyang is a player Chelsea will be looking at next season.
“I think what will happen is what happened to him at Barcelona.
“They brought him to the club, got a big signing, then realized quite quickly they need to move away to a better striker.
“I think Chelsea will have to do that as a football club. They’ll come away from Aubameyang by the end of the season and they’ll look for an alternative without a doubt.”
The former Aston Villa forward was not impressed with Chelsea’s performance in their defeat against Brighton.
He added: “Chelsea had mistakes everywhere,’ he added. ‘It’s hard to identify one player or go for a scapegoat. The whole team were well off their pace in the game.
“Even players like Cucurella were all over the place, he really was. He looked like he didn’t know where to be.
“He’s a £60m signing that Chelsea have made. He may have suffered a because Graham Potter brought him off before half-time [against Manchester United] and changed systems with him.
“He looks like a guy that’s completely lost being at a big club at the moment.”
Chelsea now faces a huge challenge in their race for a top-four finish this season as the defeat against Brighton has seen Chelsea drop to sixth place behind Newcastle United and Chelsea.
