Chelsea have been struggling in the Premier League this season and are 10th on the League table after 22 games. Graham Potters’s side has recorded only two wins in their last 14 matches. The blues are also out of the FA cup and The Carabao Cup.
Their Champions League fate hangs in the balance after a 1-0 defeat to Borrusia Dortmund away from home. In the wake of this run of poor form, there have been calls for the dismissal of Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
The Chelsea manager has the full back of the Chelsea board and owners despite calls by their supporters for his dismissal.
However, Premier League winner with Chelsea Glen Johnson has insisted that Graham Potter needs to be a bit arrogant like former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.
What did Glen Johnson say?
Asked if Graham Potter needs to be arrogant like Jose Mourinho, He said on Lord Ping: “Obviously, he is a very calm and calculated guy, so maybe that is not in his DNA.
“I suppose a little bit of arrogance is right in the sense that, if he is walking around with confidence, it is only going to rub off onto the players.
“I don’t know if he has that sort of characteristic about him, to be honest with you. There are loads of managers that are still great, but deliver their messages in a different way.
“Graham Potter is the sort of guy who seems to come across in a softer manner, obviously a gentleman, but sometimes every now and then he may have to light off a firework.”
He added: “It was all super exciting because we were pretty much signing the best players in the world. All the players want to play with the best players, so we all knew that if we played to 8/10 that no one could beat us.
“It was just that confidence that we knew when the away team would put up our team sheet in their dressing room, they would think, “how are we going to beat that?”
“So it gives you confidence, but then Mourinho would just give you even more confidence. We were just a good, defensive side in terms of being hard to break down but it didn’t feel like we could lose.”
Graham Potter was criticized by Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole for being too soft after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against West Ham in the Premier League.
Reacting to calls that he is too soft, Graham Potter said: “I’m careful not to get into discussion through the media.
“Of course, I get angry. I’m a human being; it’s just that I choose to conduct myself in the way I believe I should.
“The same media are talking about me being more angry and then running stories about referees at grassroots level. It’s an emotional thing, but I have a responsibility to Chelsea, the game, and myself to act in a certain way for me.
“If you think you can start a coaching career in the ninth tier of English football and get to this point now, with Chelsea and the Champions League, without being angry or getting nice, I would suggest you don’t know anything about anything.”
