The performance of Raheem Sterling and Reece James earned applause from former Tottenham defender Jermaine Jenas.
Raheem Sterling and Reece James were instruments in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
Sterling scored Chelsea two goals on the day and was a constant threat for Chelsea. Reece James also had an excellent game and assisted Raheem Sterling’s second game as the blues cruised to a 2- 1 victory over Leicester City despite playing over 60 minutes of the game with 10 men.
Jermaine Jenas believes Raheem Sterling and Reece James were sensational against Leicester City and admitted that Reece James had been Chelsea’s best player of the season so far.
What did Jermaine Jenas say about Raheem Sterling and Reece James’s performance against Leicester City?
Analyzing the Chelsea game on BBC Match of the Day, Jermaine Jenas said: “Reece James and Raheem Sterling today I thought were sensational.
“I think Reece James has been Chelsea’s best player since the start of the season, and he started this game in the same vein, really.
“Just quality and playing with confidence with many long balls executed into Raheem Sterling. They are developing a really nice understanding and partnership as well.
“That strike that hit the post from James. He doesn’t even think twice. He just hits it. This with Raheem I love- he makes one run, and no one recognizes it.
“He then makes another and crates the space. This is the work that goes unnoticed by strikers and forwards, and he puts in that work to earn the space for his goal. It’s how he scores a lot of his goals.
“For the second goal, star man Reece James is always on the move. He’s always thinking, how can I get in behind, and how can I hurt you? And then how many times do you see Raheem Sterling there [at the back post] doing what he does best with his movement, timing of the movement when to release himself, the delivery of the balls from Reece James?
“Those two, I really thought, were electric today.”
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel has also revealed that Raheem Sterling was showing reasons he was Chelsea’s number one transfer target.
“It was needed. We need him to score, it’s what he does and he will score.
“I could feel he wasn’t happy. He wants to score more and have more chances. So we played in a more aggressive shape in the first half for 25 minutes and then we were a man down, so we needed him to step up.
“He did, and he did what he always does. He will score, I’m convinced, and he will create chances. The goals were crucial today because they gave us belief and the boost that it was possible. They handled the win.”
Raheem Sterling has also revealed Reece James promised to assist him more.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Raheem Sterling revealed: “I tried to stay at the edge of the box, have a shot (for the first goal),” he said.
“I had a bit of luck.
“Reece told me he’d put one on a plate for me. He’s been telling me since I got here!
“We got a two-goal advantage and defended well.”
