Manchester United icon Gary Neville has slammed Scott McTominay for giving away a penalty in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Scot McTominay was caught holding Chelsea striker Armando Broja in the penalty box when a corner was kicked, it resulted in a Penalty which was converted by Jorginho to give Chelsea the lead in the 86th minute.
Casemiro equalized for Manchester United in 94 minutes of the game. The result means, Chelsea are still 4th, and one point separates them from 5th place Manchester United.
Reacting to the Penalty incident, Gary Neville said on SkySport: “It’s clumsy from McTominay.
“There’s no doubt that at the end [Armando Broja] throws himself to the ground but there is initial contact.
“It’s that left arm, then it’s the right arm. I think that’s the problem for McTominay. He may feel like he’s not brought Broja down but optically it looks terrible.
“He looked like he was hugging him and pulling him to the ground. There’s a way to stop people going across you as soon as you put your arm or two arms on someone, you’re in trouble.”
Meanwhile, Gary Neville claims Manchester United looks like a better side with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo was axed from Manchester United’s first team after the Portuguese superstar refused to come on as a substitute in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham and left the stadium before the full time.
Neville said: “It has been a big week for Erik ten Hag,
“All the scrutiny on him and his relationship with Ronaldo but I have to say I don’t think he was left with any other option.
“That’s the second time Cristiano Ronaldo has left Old Trafford in his car before his teammates have got into the dressing room and I have to say from the point of view of a football dressing room and that’s unacceptable.
“When you look at whether Cristiano Ronaldo should be selected which is obviously Cristiano Ronaldo’s main problem at this moment in time, he’s not playing.
“As great a player as he’s been, Manchester United are a better team without him and Erik ten Hag knows that.”
“On how United should deal with Ronaldo going forward, Neville added: ‘The only thing the club and Cristiano can do is get together in the next week or so is end the relationship.
“I think Cristiano is too good a player, too fantastic a character and the club have got to move on.”
Manchester United are now unbeaten in their last four Premier League matches after their 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
