Frank Lampard was named Chelsea’s interim for the remaining games of the season last week following the sacking of Graham Potter. The Chelsea legend has been in charge of the Blues for two games already. Despite losing his first two games since his return, he has hailed Chelsea record signing Enzo Fernandez as the player that has stood out for him following his return.
Enzo Fernandez has proved his doubters wrong since his record transfer to Chelsea in January. Despite Chelsea’s poor form, The Argentine international has been one of the shining lights in Chelsea’s dark times. He was the only positive thing in Chelsea’s shambolic performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
There were reports that Chelsea has triggered the one-year extension in his contract this week till 2032.
What did Frank Lampard say?
The Chelsea manager said at a press conference when asked about his contract extension rumors: “I can’t confirm that I don’t know actually, sorry about that.
“I’ve got enough on my plate really to be looking to dissect everyone’s contract at the club.
“The only thing I can say is that from working with Enzo he has been a standout character and player for me in this last week in terms of his attitude and quality.
“Even though he’s only been here a short time I think he’s a fantastic player for this club going forward and exactly the sort of profile and type of player we’ve been talking about. The contract stuff I’m not aware of.”
Frank Lampard will hope to win his first game for Chelsea since his return and probably break Chelsea’s four games goal-scoring drought against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
Brighton are one of the best-performing teams in the Premier League this season and could finish in the top six this season.
On Chelsea’s game against Brighton on Saturday, he added: “They’ve had a fantastic model,’ former Everton boss Lampard said of Brighton. ‘They’ve come up, stabilized their Premier League status and moved up over the past six or seven years.
“That is their path; Chelsea’s is a different one. This is a club that has been successful over a period of a long period of time.
“We have to understand when you’re in a process and a project that you’ll have to dig in and not focus on too much opinion.”
A win against Brighton could boost Chelsea’s confidence when they face Real Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League. The West London Club is trailing by a two goals deficit against the 14 times Champions League winners.
