Frank Lampard revealed what he told Reece James after England red card

As we end the international break and look ahead to today’s Premier League fixtures, it is time for a bit of reflection.

Blues right back Reece James was fantastic in his couple of games for England, and it will stick in his memories forever as he made his senior debut.

But the occasion was slightly tarred by the 20-year old getting sent off for dissent at the end of the Denmark defeat, after going up to the Referee.

This is something that the youngster will need to learn from, but at the same time, you cannot help but admire his passion and desire. He was clearly frustrated, we have seen all the best pro’s do the same thing and lose it before, it happens.

No problem with Reece’s red card last night. Shows passion and desire, and he’s still young and learning. Rather from that than from a bad tackle after a first touch of a Sunday League player!

However, Blues boss Frank Lampard has revealed that he did have a word with James after the incident this week in an attempt to keep him from making the same mistake twice.

As reported by The Metro, Lampard said:

“I did have a word with him about what happened at the end and the fact he got involved with the referee.

“We are all human, I have been there, done it, did it as a player, maybe even as a manager – none of us are saints.

“It will definitely be one for him to learn from – that when you have a performance at that level, playing for your country, you will get a lot of plaudits, so there was no need for him to get involved with the referee after.

“It was a pretty simple conversation and something he will definitely take on board.

“Otherwise his performance was very good but I expected that, because I expect a lot from Reece.

“He showed it when he came on against Belgium, how comfortable he was – it looked like he had been playing for a long time. The performance was really good.”
