Chelsea’s season went from bad to worse after they were eliminated from the third round of the FA Cup by Manchester City at the Etihad. The blues lost by 4-0 to Pep Guardiola’s side.
Graham Potter’s side has lost three times to Manchester City this season and has failed to score in those meetings. The last time Chelsea won against Manchester City was in the 2021 Champions League finals. The blues has now lost five games in a row against Manchester City.
Blues started with eight senior team players but their performance on the night was very embarrassing compared to the effort they put on in their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in Premier League on Thursday at Stamford Bridge.
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has slammed Kai Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and Jorginho following their below-par performance against Manchester City.
What did Frank Leboeuf say?
Speaking on ESPN, He said: “Shameful, really shameful.
“I’ve never seen Chelsea so low in terms of willing, they don’t have the will, they don’t have the guts, they don’t have the courage to fight for the colours, they don’t have pride.
“I see players prove nothing, they show disrespect towards the fans and the club.
“I’m talking about the leaders, so-called leaders, I’m not talking about Hall, Chalobah or Humphreys, I’m talking about the players who form the spine, they are shameful, they do nothing.
“I don’t know what Kai Havertz is doing, he’ll be on record for scoring in the Champions League final, but what else?
“Mason, yes, I love him, he’s a guy from the club, but come on, he has to do something.
“I’m not even going to talk about Jorginho. I don’t know what Jorginho is still doing on the field.
“I’m very upset with what I’ve seen. I think it’s really disrespectful, they don’t do anything to make sure at least people will be proud.
“Enough is enough, something has to be changed. It’s not the club I know, it’s not the club fighting for Europe and being a champion of Europe, they’re so far away from that right now.”
Meanwhile, Graham Potter has admitted that Chelsea were poor against Manchester City.
He said at a Press conference: “I thought we were second best to a very, very good side. Obviously, we are not in a great moment ourselves and even though it was a cagey first 20 minutes we couldn’t attack the backline well enough, we couldn’t attack as well as we would like. I think Manchester City do really well in terms of stopping you doing that. At the same time, we struggled.
“It was a fantastic first goal in terms of a strike from a free-kick, and a strange penalty and you are caught in a position where it is 2-0 and you have to chase the ball against Manchester City. You are caught between trying to commit more men and not getting opened up.
“So the first half was painful and tough for us all. Second half, we had to respond and I thought there were some positives there in terms of the young players. I thought they gave everything and showed their quality but we are disappointed we went out of the competition. Congratulations to Man City. They deserved to win, of course.”
Chelsea will face Fulham away at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Thursday.
