Ralph Norman, a Freedom Caucus member, said there could be an “uprising.”
On Tuesday, members of the House Freedom Caucus seemed eager for Speaker Kevin McCarthy to follow through on his recent veiled threat to impeach President Biden. One member of the conservative group of GOP members called McCarthy’s words a “paradigm shift.”
“When he does talk about impeachment, what he says is very important. Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., said Tuesday after a Freedom Caucus press meeting, “the ground shifted a little bit” when he opened the door. “I don’t think there’s any doubt that what he said changed how people think about that.”
After a series of meetings and reports on allegations of wrongdoing by Biden and his family, McCarthy said on Fox News’s “Hannity” on Monday night, “This is rising to the level of an impeachment inquiry, which gives Congress the most power to get the rest of the knowledge and information it needs.”
It’s the most explicit statement the speaker has made about impeaching Biden. Since the House GOP took control this year, the hardliners in his party have been calling for this.
Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said that if the House didn’t try to eliminate Biden, there would be “an uprising” against him.
“Look, the case against this guy is getting stronger. “Look what he’s done!” said Norman. “What Donald Trump has done with papers doesn’t hold a candle to this.”
Norman said there was a “difference of opinion” about taking such a severe step, but he didn’t think it was worth risking a failed impeachment vote.
“Some people don’t think what he did was so bad. The people as a whole is going to rise up against this guy, I think, at the end of the day.”
Republicans are not just trying to get rid of Biden. Some of the president’s top Cabinet members, like Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, have been called out by GOP members for removal.
When asked which Biden official should be fired first during the news meeting, Norman said, “all of the above.”
Rep. Andy Biggs, a Republican from Arizona, said that Mayorkas would be the “low-hanging fruit” to look at first. “But with the evidence we’ve gathered in the Oversight Committee and Judiciary Committee about the Biden — I would call it from the crime syndicate, I don’t know what else to call it,” he said.
He said, “That would be a very interesting and maybe even important step.” “I’ll just say that the evidence I’ve seen is so strong that it makes me think our current president is corrupted and compromised,” he said.
At one point, Norman made fun of Vice President Kamala Harris. He said, “I realize that Joe Biden’s replacement is probably laughing somewhere right now, so she’s not a replacement.”
