Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag has revealed that he needs a striker and an attacking Midfielder at Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils are in the process of rebuilding their squad for next season after enduring a terrible performance both in the Premier League and Europe last season. Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.
Erik Ten Hag was appointed in March to replace interim manager Ralf Rangnick following an impressive five-year stint with Dutch Champions Ajax. The Dutch tactician’s major task is to make Manchester United competitive again both in the Premier League and in Europe.
Manchester United has lost the likes of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Jese Lingard, and Edinson Cavani. Despite all these significant departures, Manchester United is yet to sign a midfielder or a striker in the transfer market.
Ten Hag has identified Dutch and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as his main priority this summer but Manchester United and Barcelona are yet to agree on transfer fees. Barcelona is demanding £85 million for the Dutch international.
They also have a deal in principle to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. Manchester United Major problem now is the rumors linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move away from the club. Ronaldo’s departure will be a big blow for Manchester United as they have no center forward in their team following the departure of Edinson Cavani.
What did Erik Ten Hag say?
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Erik Ten Hag said:” We want to have the right players.
“We have a really good squad, we are working on developing our way of playing and if the opportunity is there we will strike [to sign new players].
“I said already definitely we are searching for players in midfield and I think that we need offense. We are still working for players.”
When asked about Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, Erik Ten Hag said:” I never talk about players that are not contracted to Manchester United.
“I cannot tell anything about this issue.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United Legend Rio Ferdinand claims Christian Eriksen will a squad player at Manchester United.
Manchester United has a deal in principle to sign Christain Eriksen on a free transfer after six months at Brentford following his miraculous return to football.
Reacting to Manchester United’s deal with Christian Eriksen on his Youtube Channel Vibe with Five, He said: “I think Christian Eriksen is a squad player. He doesn’t come as a starter, I would be very surprised if he comes into Manchester United as a starter.
“I think he’ll come in and play a particular role in and around it. The position he is likely to occupy will be similar to Bruno Fernandes and I don’t see him taking him out of the team.
“Can you play both? Yes, but then have you got the person defensively behind them to be able to mop things up and secure things behind them,? I question that.
“So there are s lot of positives with him because I think he is a fantastic technician with fantastic ability but if he’s coming to be someone who fills in here and there, I can see that. But Man United fans are anticipating big names coming in the door.”
