Four people, including three 14-year-olds, sustained injuries in a gunshot in Detroit on Thursday evening, according to police.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., the Detroit Police Department reported that a “dispute over a delivery” in the 13500 block of Penrod resulted in at least 30 shots being discharged. The condition of one of the victims who was wounded in the face remains critical, according to Detroit Police.
“This appears to be a gunfight involving a dispute over a delivery,” said James White, chief of police in Detroit. Shots were discharged after they engaged in conflict.
The fourth victim is in their twenties, and police have one suspect in custody, who is in their 20s.
White stated that the other victims had “non-life threatening” injuries.
This level of violence is intolerable; we will not tolerate it. White stated, “We have competent officers and we are not joking around.” “There have been 30 shots fired in our community, and officers are knocking on doors to ensure no one has been injured in an argument over a delivery.”
The police chief stated that eleven individuals were removed from the residence. Their ages ranged from seven to twenty.
“We’re going to find out where the adults were,” White continued, noting that many of the children did not reside in the area.
According to White, at least four firearms were found. One victim was discovered at a different location and police were contacted.
The chief of police attributed the violence to “too many guns and too many people putting them in the wrong hands.”
