In order to discuss the course offerings at the new school, DeSantis requested a meeting with the Vice President.
Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida, recently gave an interview to NBC Nightly News in which he defended the newly implemented African-American history curriculum in the state.
The statement “Instruction includes how slaves develop skills which in some instances could be applied for their personal benefit” is the most troublesome for those who disagree with Florida’s new curriculum. It states that “Instruction includes how slaves develop skills which in some instances could be applied for their personal benefit.” The administration of Governor Ron DeSantis has vehemently denied assertions made by Vice President Kamala Harris and left-wing media outlets claiming children in the state of Florida are taught that slaves in the United States “benefited from slavery.”
According to DeSantis, who gave an interview to NBC News, this demonstrates that slaves “developed skills despite, not because of, slavery.” After slavery was abolished, it was they who demonstrated ingenuity by finding new applications for the information they had gained.
