The left’s excitement about 2024 and Biden’s likely opponent has reached a fever pitch.
Trump Derangement Syndrome is at an all-time high. Trump is going to be a tyrant! Trump will annihilate the constitution! Trump intends to murder his political opponents! (Yes, that’s what nutty Joe Scarborough said.)
And…Trump will destroy democracy, according to Joe Biden’s campaign theme.
Nobody has been so hysterically demonized since the Grinch stole Christmas. The establishment media is pouring Trump panic at breakneck pace. According to the magazine, “how a second term could shatter norms with the courts, education, the military, foreign policy, immigration, abortion rights, science, and gender” was the focus of a recent special edition of The Atlantic.
What is behind this unexpected uptick in scaremongering? There are three reasons for this:
Trump has a good chance of winning.
Biden has nothing else to run on, and it has previously worked.
On that last point, remember that in 2016, Hillary Clinton’s campaign pushed a narrative that had Americans quaking in their Uggs when they weren’t conjuring up fake news about Trump collaborating with Russia. They anticipated that in his first year in office, Trump would throw the country into recession and create a stock market meltdown! He’d start World War III! He planned to deport 11 million illegal immigrants and to end women’s equal rights! He’d hand over Europe to Putin and reinstate torture!
Of course, none of those actions were done by Trump. Instead, he aided in the passage of a large tax overhaul, confirmed Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, began reducing President Obama’s strangling regulatory excesses, and reduced illegal immigration. Most importantly, he made it clear to China and the rest of the globe that the United States was not to be trifled with. How? By striking Syria during a dinner with Chinese President Xi at Mar-a-Lago; over what Trump characterized as a “beautiful piece of chocolate cake,” Trump surprised the Chinese tyrant. That established the tone.
In 2016, voters ignored the dire predictions and chose Trump over Hillary Clinton. That didn’t stop Biden from using the same strategy in 2020; this time it worked.
The second reason for amplifying Trump mania is that Biden has nothing else to promote. He has relentlessly promoted Bidenomics, only to find his boasts falling flat with the 60% of Americans who disapprove of his economic management. The White House is reportedly reconsidering the word, and who can blame them? Personalizing large amounts of spending, government, and inflation appears to be beyond foolish.
Biden also brags about his climate policy, which is losing favor by the day. Vice President Kamala Harris recently attended COP28 in Abu Dhabi and boasted that the Biden administration had committed one trillion dollars to climate programs. That had to be a head-turner for those voters who weren’t keeping track.
Some may ask where that trillion bucks is going. Where exactly? One of the main goals of the amusingly named Inflation Reduction Act was to increase the number of charging stations for electric vehicles. According to McKinsey & Company, “the United States will need about 28 million ports by 2030 to meet the demand for electricity by zero-emission passenger vehicles,” up from 2.6 million currently. According to recent reports, not a single charging station has been added since the measure was passed sixteen months ago.
John Podesta, who ran Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign, spearheaded Obama’s climate agenda, and founded the left-wing Center for American Progress, was given $370 billion in climate funds to distribute to various clean-energy groups; it will be interesting to see which swing states and critical districts receive those funds.
Biden likewise claims to be constructing the economy from the bottom up. He claims to be bringing manufacturing back to the United States, but the numbers show otherwise. Before COVID devastated the US economy in December 2019, there were 12.9 million Americans employed in manufacturing. Last month, the figure had risen slightly to 13 million.
The reality is that the Republican plan for 2024 is brimming with opportunities. The border is truly a disaster. Millions of people are illegally entering our country, and the president is powerless to stop them. Fentanyl-related deaths, drug gangs terrorizing border villages, an unknown number of terrorists infiltrating across…Yet Biden is unwilling to change policies, despite the fact that the disaster is lowering his approval ratings and infuriating even hardline Democrats in blue cities and regions. The White House has repeatedly ignored Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, who has asked for assistance as our largest city faces a budgetary crisis.
To what purpose? Who is encouraging mass illegal immigration? It’s not Hispanics; polls show that they are opposed to the inflow. The progressive side of the Democratic Party is pulling the levers, which tells a lot about Joe Biden’s shaky hold on the White House.
Which takes us to our final point. Democrats are growing increasingly concerned that Donald Trump will win in 2024. According to a new Wall Street Journal poll, Trump leads Biden by 4 points, and by even more if third-party candidates are included.
Trump was rarely ahead in 2020, but that is no longer the case. Voters now have a clear picture of what a Joe Biden presidency would look like, and they don’t like it. Trump wins on practically every subject, even inflation.
