David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark GCON was born to his parents on April 18,1948, in Otukpo Benue States, Nigeria, under the zodiac sign of Aries, of Nigerian nationality and of black descent. He was raised in the Christian faith. Mark attended and graduated from St. Francis Catholic Practicing School. He then furthered up at the Nigerian Military School and continued to Nigerian Defense Academy. Mark was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1970 after graduating from the Nigerian Defense Academy and later became a Captain in 1971. Career (Minister and Senate of Nigeria)
Mark was in charge of the Communications Ministry and its two key parastatals, Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST). He was noted for his bluntness as Minister of Communications; during a two-day walking tour of facilities in Akure in 1989, some union workers protested that some of its members had not been promoted since 1978. Mark responded that individuals who had not been promoted might have to retire, which means that unproductive employees would have to be let go. He also advocated for the death penalty for telecom cable thieves and a program of decommissioning underutilized telecom facilities, citing political factors for allocating phone network allocations to areas with minimal use of phone networks.
On June 6, 2007, Mark was elected as President of the Nigerian Senate.
In April 2011, David Mark ran for re-election to the Senate from Benue South and was elected for a fourth term. David Mark said that polls indicated his decisive victory and urged his opponents to collaborate to better Nigeria.
