The Dutch international was confirmed as a new Manchester United player today after a sign of a three years deal with the Red Devils.
Christian Eriksen joined Brentford on a six-month contract following a miraculous return to football after suffering from cardiac arrest against Finland in the group stages of the Euro 2020 Championship.
The midfielder was released by Inter Milan last season as Italian series A rules prevented him from playing with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
The Danish international made 11 appearances for Brentford scoring one goal and providing 4 assists in the process. He created the second most chances in the Premier League behind Manchester City Playmaker Kelvin De Bruyne.
Manchester United had to be competition from Tottenham and his former club Brentford to sign the 31-year-old playmaker.
What did Christian Eriksen say?
Speaking on Manchester United’s official website, The Dutch international said: ‘I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach.
“Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future.
“I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”
Former Tottenham midfielder continued: “United is a special club and I can’t wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling.”
John Murtough, Manchester United’s director of Football also reacted to Cristian Eriksen’s signing saying: ‘Christian has been one of the best-attacking midfielders in Europe throughout his career.
“It is no surprise that he had so many options this summer, so we are really happy that he was convinced that this is the right club for him.
‘In addition to his outstanding technique, Christian will add valuable experience and leadership skills to the squad, and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits of these qualities on the pitch this coming season and beyond.”
Christian Eriksen will be Manchester United’s third signing of the summer.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has hailed the quality of Manchester United’s new signing Lisandro Martinez.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five, He said: “The more I’ve looked into him and the vibes and the stories I’m hearing and the mutterings from different people – it gets better.
“I listened to an interview with Jurrien Timber, the young player that United was looking to sign, the center-back Martinez played alongside at Ajax. He was basically saying “when I’m not on my game and a bit out of concentration, Martinez always shouts at me, he always swears at me in his language and gets me going.
“I’ve been shouting about the character element for a long time and from what I’m hearing from various people, Timber being one of them, is that he has the character, he’s a leader, he demands of other people and he’s somebody who wants to get physical and very aggressive but who can also play.”
