Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan from Liverpool, the club announced on Friday.
Carvalho joined Liverpool last year after scoring 10 goals for Fulham on their path to promotion from the Championship.
Carvalho appeared 21 times for Liverpool in all competitions last season, although his playing time dwindled in the second half.
After the new year, he made only two brief Premier League substitute appearances, as well as one in the Champions League and one in the FA Cup.
“He will now continue his development and gain more experience in Germany with Leipzig,” said Liverpool in a statement.
The promise of regular game time is understood to have been a crucial factor in luring Carvalho to the German club, and he now joins a Leipzig team aiming to build on its impressive finish to last season.
After a shaky start, Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga and qualified for the Champions League.
Carvalho, 20, was born in Portugal and raised in London. He represented England up to the under-18 level before joining Portugal’s under-21 team.
