As the world prepares to hear Vice President Biden speak from the Birthplace of America, a prominent Philadelphia community leader who was shot during a carjacking earlier this year says he no longer feels safe in the city where he was born.
After being shot twice in April, Raheem Bell, 27, fought for his life. Even after months of doctor’s appointments, surgery, and a challenging recuperation, he says he still can’t believe what happened to him.
I grew up in Philadelphia,” he remarked. I knew it was happening all around me, but I never imagined it would affect me personally.
And he continued, “Never would I believe I’d be a victim of gun violence.”
