After securing a famous treble in the 2022/23 campaign, Manchester City are the team to beat in Europe going into next season.
With a squad rich in talent and manager Pep Guardiola at the helm, which teams can stop Man City from making it four Premier League titles in a row next term?
City Tested But Came Through With Flying Colors
While Arsenal did give City a good run for their money at one stage, Guardiola’s side found their rhythm when it counted towards the end of the campaign. The Citizens, who are -163 in the odds on football to retain the Premier League title next season, found themselves eight points behind the Gunners at one stage.
Arsenal, at +750 in the football tips for today to win next season’s Premier League, ran out of steam in the final weeks and City ended up finishing five points clear of the North London outfit. Having claimed the previous league title under the immense pressure of having to win on the final day of the season, City has the experience of getting over the line. This Arsenal squad did not, and it showed.

While the Gunners might well be wondering about what might have been, Mikel Arteta’s side showed great signs of progress and should be title contenders next season. Arsenal made a blistering start to the campaign, which meant other clubs were playing catch-up for a number of months.
Much like the season before when they missed out on a top-four finish, Arsenal fell away at the crucial latter stage of the season. This Arsenal side is moving in the right direction and with some summer recruitment can be thereabouts again next spring in the title race.
Giants With Ground To Make Up
Liverpool has been City’s biggest rivals in recent years but a disappointing start to the 2022/23 campaign put the Reds out of the title frame with months to go. While Jürgen Klopp’s side did have a strong end to the season, it was a case of too little too late for the Merseyside outfit. Liverpool will look to build on that strong end to the last campaign and an improved start can see them return to challenging City again next term.

Chelsea was another side that endured a season to forget as they finished all the way down in 12th place in the table. Graham Potter failed to get a tune out of the Blues after they sacked previous manager Thomas Tuchel earlier in the season.
Chelsea has since turned to former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and the Argentine could be the man to get the West London club back fighting for the Premier League title. Manchester United will continue its development under manager Erik ten Hag and a big summer of recruitment is expected from the Red Devils.
The same applies to Newcastle United, as it was one of the surprise packages of the last Premier League campaign. However, both Manchester United and Newcastle have a lot of ground to make up if they are to surpass frontrunners Man City.
It was a memorable 2022/23 campaign for City which means they can be considered one of the great sides of British football. Whether any side can stop the Citizens’ dominance in England next season, remains to be seen.
