Career
David Bryar started as a sound engineer for rock bands such as The Used and Thrice in 2000. He met My Chemical Romance when they were on tour with The Used in 2004. After the band’s tour in Japan, Bryar took over as drummer for My Chemical Romance, replacing Matt Pelissier soon after releasing the band’s second studio album, namely Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004). Bryar appeared in all of the music videos for Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and played on all of the album’s following releases. Bryar and lead singer Gerard Way were wounded while shooting the music video for “Famous Last Words,” directed by Samuel Bayer. Their injuries forced the band to cancel their appearance at the San Diego Street Scene event.
Moreover, after Bryar was hospitalized with a staph infection a month later, the band had to cancel two tour dates. When the band embarked on The Black Parade World Tour in support of the record in February 2007, he started experiencing wrist difficulties in November, forcing the crew to postpone their gig in Maine. Brian Bryar, the lead vocalist of My Chemical Romance, apologized for his previous injuries and sat out the tour, with Pete Parada filling in as his interim substitute.
He continued to travel with the band and help with pyrotechnics until the end of the time in January 2008. My Chemical Romance returned to the studio in 2009 to create their fourth album with producer Brendan O’Brien. On July 31 and August 1, they performed two “secret” gigs at Los Angeles’ Roxy Theatre, showcasing previously unpublished songs from their forthcoming album.
