Bayern’s last-gasp clinching of the title in May is still fresh in the minds of many supporters, however, in recent weeks attention has turned to the transfer market. With Sadio Mane’s departure having been confirmed and with the 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign fast approaching, this week will be vitally important for the summer recruitment in Bavaria.
Bayern officials have travelled to London to speak with Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy this week with chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe reportedly making progress in their protracted quest to persuade the England captain to swap the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Allianz Arena.
Unfortunately, despite plenty of initial positivity, the two clubs still appear to be poles apart from it comes to the striker’s valuation. Added complications such as Spurs’ preference to insert a buyback clause into the deal have also proved to be a stumbling block so far. Daniel Levy is a notoriously tough negotiator and with Bayern reportedly still around £20million short of Kane’s price tag, there is still plenty of work to do for both sides.
With a third bid incoming, it looks set to be a pivotal week for both clubs. Spurs, under new manager Ange Postecoglu are expected to struggle without their talisman, however, the club is under pressure to sell with Kane now entering the final year of his contract. It’s a tricky balance for the coaching staff, who are starting to make plans for the season not knowing whether their star striker will be playing any part in the upcoming campaign.
The Premier League is the most popular division in the world with viewing figures continuing to increase in the USA. As a result, this surge in American interest has led to a significant rise in engagement with American online sportsbooks. Fans across the United States are eagerly placing bets and wagers on Spurs to finish in the top six is likely to drift once Kane’s departure is confirmed. The 30-year old scored 30 goals last season, 20 more than any of his teammates and his absence is likely to be keenly felt in North London.
Bayern and Kane appear to be on the same page when it comes to personal terms, and the striker appears to be frustrated by the two clubs’ failure to reach a conclusion. He has set his heart on a move to the Bundesliga, although his affable nature suggests that he is unlikely to sulk should the move break down.
Understandably, the German club are keen to wrap up the deal in the next seven days, however, Levy’s hardball approach to transfer dealing is likely to cause further delays. Striker Mathys Tel could be used as a potential makeweight in the deal, however, convincing the Frenchman to leave the Allianz will be far from a straightforward process.
