The Ballon d’Or 2024 award countdown is on, and with the big day on Monday, October 28, we have all of the latest information and gist on the top contenders for all the awards on the night. This is the dawn of a new era for men’s honour, with neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo in contention to win the prestigious prize. Aitana Bonmati is once again the favourite to claim the women’s award.
In less than 15 days, the top footballing talent will descend upon Paris to receive arguably the most prestigious individual accolades. The lists of nominees for both awards were announced on September 4, with the Ballon d’Or and Ballon d’Or Feminin winners to be announced on Monday, October 28.
The surprise omission for this year’s award is the two most decorated winners, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have won a combined total of 13 Ballon d’Or between them, failing to make the nomination list in the men’s category for the first time in twenty-one years.
Jude Bellingham, Rodri, and Vinicius Junior are frontrunners for the men’s honors, while Aitana Bonmati, Salma Paralluelo, and Ada Hegerberg are among those looking to be crowned women’s winners. Other awards for grabs on the night are the Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper, the Kopa Trophy for the best men’s player under 21, Men’s Club of the Year, Women’s Club of the Year, Women’s Coach of the Year, and Women’s Coach of the Year.
