Humans are known to be creatures of habit. And although we could be a bit more flexible and less stubborn, it has to be said that sometimes it is just nice to have a standard product or brand for certain things. Take shampoo or toothpaste, for example. If a product works fine and is good for you, why keep trying new options forever? In this blog post, we list the products that people who are real creatures of habit often don’t even think about changing.
Softdrinks
When you order a soft drink on a terrace or in a restaurant, you often don’t have the choice which brand of soft drink you get. The restaurant is connected to one supplier, so you have to make do with what you get. However, most people in the supermarket will not ‘just’ pick up a bottle of cola when they feel like it. This is interesting, because in terms of taste, there is probably not that much difference between the various types of colas (although real Cola-lovers would say there is). However, people seem to have a strong preference for Coca-Cola or Pepsi, or for Fanta instead of Sisi. If you have a strong preference, it is the first indication that you are a real creature of habit.
Showergel
Another product that people often have a favorite in is shower gel. If you always choose a creamy shower gel by Dove, it is not likely that you will now suddenly go for a variant of Nivea. However, we should add that the preference for soft drinks plays a much bigger role than for shower gel. If people like to drink cola and their favorite brand is sold out, many of them will leave it at that. When people need shower gel and their preferred brand is not available, they will be more inclined to at least not come home empty-handed. Still, it is nice to be able to wash yourself with your all-time favorite scent and type.
The (online) Dutch supermarket
When you are abroad, chances are that your favorite products are not always available at the first supermarket or local shop. This can sometimes be quite frustrating. For Dutch people there is now a great solution! There is an online Dutch supermarket that offers more than 27,000 Dutch brands. As a Dutch person abroad, you will never have to do without your favorite Dutch brands again. The Dutch Expat Shop delivers all over the world and makes sure that the costs of your shipment are as low as possible.
