Premier League all-time goal scorer and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has claimed Manchester United and Newcastle United are making a huge transfer ‘gamble’ in their pursuit of Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško.
Newcastle United have seen their initial £70m bid for the 22-year-old rejected by RB Leipzig. Manchester United are looking to boost their attack this season with Benjamin Šeško as their main striker after losing Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal.
Seeking to reinforce their forward line, Newcastle United is actively looking for a striker, especially after turning down Liverpool’s £110m bid for Alexander Isak. Meanwhile, the Swedish international has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool this season.
According to Alan Shearer, Benjamin Šeško is an exciting contract, but this time it aims to improve his overall game.

What did Alan Shearer say?
Discussing the Newcastle United and Manchester United pursuit of Benjamin Šeško, The Rest is Football podcast: “With Sesko, I know he’s young, but that would be a gamble because you’re going to have to pay a decent sized fee.
“I saw him two or three times in the Champions League last season and there’s definitely room for improvement.
“Yes, there’s certainly a talent there but there’s a lot improvement that can be made as well. You’re bringing someone who’s unknown into the Premier League and that’s always a bit of a risk.”
Last season, Benjamin Šeško showcased his abilities by scoring 21 goals in 45 appearances for RB Leipzig, including 13 in the Bundesliga.
