On July 2, Beijing hosted the ROBO League robot soccer tournament. Thousands of curious spectators gathered to watch teams of robots, each controlled entirely by artificial intelligence, compete in intense 3-on-3 soccer matches.
According to Dou Jing, the executive director of the organizing committee, this event marks China’s first fully autonomous AI robot football match. He said: “This is the first fully autonomous AI robot football match in China. “It represents a combination of technological innovation and industrial application, as well as an important window for bringing robots into public life and real-world scenarios.”

The THU Robotics team from Tsinghua University won the tournament, after defeating the Mountain Sea team from China Agricultural University with a score of 5 to 3.
This tournament is just the beginning. It was held as a lead-up to the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Sports Games, set to take place in Beijing this August.
