About Niacin and How it Affects the Human Body

While there are many out there who believe that Niacin and Niacinamide are one and the same, they are actually two different forms of the vitamin B3 and are used for treating different things. While Niacin is mostly used in order to treat patients with high cholesterol, circulation problems, migraines and diarrhea, Niacinamide is mostly used for the treatment of diabetes and two specific skin conditions referred to as bullous pemphigoid and granuloma annulare. In any case, various studies have been performed on both types of vitamin B3, and some interesting conclusions were made based on the evidence.

Before starting off with the findings though, it is important to understand what Niacin is used in the body. To make this long story a short one, Niacin is mainly required by the body in order to turn various carbohydrates into energy. Apart from that, it also serves to strengthen the immune and nervous systems of the body, not to mention help maintaining the skin, eyes and hair. It can even prevent anemia and heavily reduces the chances of having pancreatic cancer. Niacin can be found in many products including but not limited to: tuna, salmon, dates, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, nuts, legumes and mushrooms.

To start things off, as mentioned before, Niacin is responsible for helping your nervous and immune systems stay strong, protecting your from a veritable plethora of diseases and whatnot. Unfortunately, there are many people these days suffering from a deficiency of vitamin B3 in their blood, putting various aspects of their health at risk. Needless to say, fighting the deficiency in vitamin B3 is a very important part of staying healthy to live a long time.

Second of all, Niacin has been found to be extremely effective when it comes to treating people with high cholesterol, as it works to increase the levels of good cholesterol in the blood while washing away the bad. As a result, it also works to drastically lower the risks of heart disease that are associated with clogged arteries and high blood pressure.

Because it lowers cholesterol levels, Niacin allows for the blood in the body to circulate much better, meaning your heart will have to exert itself much less when pumping blood out into the body. As a result, the muscles will be able to not only perform better, but also recover faster as a result of the increased injection of blood, oxygen and nutrients.

Finally, while by itself Niacin doesn’t have any side effects, it does have some when taken in very high dosages. Those side effects include an upset stomach, itching, dizziness, headaches, flushing, an upset stomach and in increase in blood sugar levels. As you can see though, those side effects are merely irritating, and far from being dangerous or heavily-debilitating.

All in all, simply keep in mind that vitamin B3 is very important to the body whether it is a question of cardiovascular health, the strength of the immune system or muscle recovery.
