Last week, a Singaporean tourist and her spouse were hiking in a state park in New York when she tragically fell off a cliff and died.
Just after 1 p.m. on December 22, New York State Police troopers were called to Minnewaska State Park in the Town of Rochester in response to reports of an injured hiker.
Investigators identified the woman as Singaporean Nur Aisyah Binte MD Akbar, 39. She had stopped to take pictures at the cliff’s edge while hiking on the Beacon Hill Trail with her husband, 41-year-old Abdul Rauf Bin Mohd Said.
Blinte MD Akbar lost her balance and tumbled off the cliff, falling about 70 feet, according to state police. Her spouse made a 911 call.
After arriving on the scene, NYSP Aviation lifted the woman to safety. According to Bin Mohd Said, the medical team attempted to revive her for almost three hours without success. After being taken to Ellenville Regional Hospital, she passed away from her wounds, according to state police.
In a Facebook post, Bin Mohd said, “My heart is broken into pieces, and I don’t know how to piece them back together.”
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
