A Virginia law enforcement officer who was born to Salvadoran immigrants who fled the civil war in search of a better life in the United States is running for the candidacy for the seat held by the Republican Party in the 7th Congressional District of Virginia. He will compete against five other candidates in the state’s primary on Tuesday. His parents fled the civil war in search of a better life in the United States.
Yesli Vega, a patrol officer for the Alexandria Police Department, was victorious in the Republican primary and went on to prevail in the general election against her Democratic challenger. As a result, she was elected to the Prince William County Board of Supervisors in 2018.
