It had been only two weeks after the young man had been released from his time spent in juvenile detention.
It was stated that a man armed with a firearm in Austin, Texas, defended himself and another woman against an attempt at robbery made by a juvenile suspect the previous week.
In addition, 17-year-old Jaylyn Reed has been charged with the armed robbery of the same victim. As of the year 2021, Reed was already serving time in prison for a series of robberies that he committed. On the 27th of May, he was freed from juvenile detention with an ankle monitor, but according to the police, he removed it two days later. Reed is accused of carrying out nine separate robberies throughout a range of five days, as stated by the authorities.
According to the statements made by the police, Reed approached the man and woman as soon as he exited a vehicle that he was in together with three other suspects.
According to the police report, while Reed was exiting the vehicle, he walked over to a black guy and a black lady and started talking to them. “Reed brandished a firearm and threatened the victim to successfully steal the latter’s backpack from him. Additionally, they waited for Reed after the other occupants in the car exited the vehicle and walked away. Reed was advancing toward the getaway vehicle while simultaneously aiming his gun at the person who had been victimized by him. Reed and the other passengers in the Chevy Malibu came under attack by the male victim, who retaliated by pulling out a gun and firing several shots at them in self-defense.”
