Eleven Plainville Farms employees in Pennsylvania have been charged with animal cruelty after a PETA investigator allegedly obtained video of them kicking, stomping, and hitting turkeys.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the cruelty occurred at the company’s farms in Chester, Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, Perry, and Union counties. A total of 139 charges were made, including six felonies for aggravated animal cruelty and 76 misdemeanors for animal cruelty.
According to investigators, the workers were in charge of capturing and crating birds headed for slaughter.
The investigation was begun in August 2021 in response to a complaint filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). At one of the farms, an undercover PETA investigator was recruited and video footage of alleged animal cruelty was obtained.
