Turk made his significant debut as a guest performer on three tracks from Juvenile’s 1998 album, 400 Degreez: “Welcome 2 Tha Nolia,” “Ha (Hot Boys Remix),” and “Rich Niggaz.” Young & Thuggin’ (2001), Turk’s first studio album, peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200. He left Cash Money in 2003 following the Hot Boys’ 2001 breakup and secured a recording deal with producer Ke’Noe through his label, Laboratory Recordz. Entertainment One Music independently published his third album, Penitentiary Chances (2004), and his second album, Raw & Uncut (2003).
On federal charges, Turk was found guilty in 2005 of possessing a firearm while a felon, evading prosecution, abusing drugs with illegal intent, and while in possession of a handgun. The allegations stemmed from an officer of the Memphis Police Department who was shot in the early months of 2004. He received a 10-year prison term. Based on the same event, he pleaded an Alford plea to second-degree attempted murder in Tennessee state court in 2006 and was given a 14-year prison term.
Ke’Noe released two albums of previously unheard Turk recordings while jailed, titled Convicted Felons and Still A Hot Boy. Turk recorded the album’s earnings on his jail account.
