Video footage of an officer charging toward a burning pickup vehicle to save an elderly woman inside has been made public by Michigan police.
After a pickup truck was reported to be on fire in a street median late on Saturday night, FOX2 Detroit reported that Fraser Police Officer Cameron Rieper raced to the scene in Macomb County.
“There was flames in like the bed area of the truck and then the engine compartment was just starting to catch on fire,” Reiper stated to the station.
As flames consumed the Reiper’s police cruiser, footage from the vehicle showed the officer sprinting toward the driver’s side door.
Reiper claimed that as he attempted to pull the elderly victim to safety, she first grasped the steering wheel because she seemed disoriented.
The officer—a veteran firefighter—refused to give up, though, and in the end, she can be seen being pulled out of the escalating flames on camera.
According to the report, the woman has non-life-threatening injuries and is recuperating in the hospital. It was unknown whether the woman had a medical condition before to the occurrence or what caused the crash.
