The 21 years old French international has revealed that he will return to Arsenal next season after enjoying a sensational season with Olympique de Marseille while on loan.
Arsenal signed William Saliba from Saint-Étienne for 30 million Euros on a five years deal. since signing for Arsenal in 2019, the French midfielder is yet to make an official appearance for the Gunners.
William Saliba has been loaned out three times since joining Arsenal and spent all the loan time at French Ligue one. Saliba enjoyed an impressive season for Marseille in the French Ligue one and Europe. his impressive performance for Olympique de Marseille saw him named the young best player in the French league one and part of the Ligue one team of the year.
The Arsenal Loanee had also enjoyed time with the French National team after an impressive season.
What did William Saliba say about his Arsenal future?
In an Interview with Telefoots, The French Ligue one young player of the season said: ‘I belong to Arsenal, I still have two years left.
‘I will be back with Arsenal. I have played zero matches and I still want to show them my true face and have the chance to play for these fans and this great club.
‘But it doesn’t just depend on me. In any case, to leave like this, would be a shame.’
The Arsenal defender also had special words to say about Olympique de Marseille.
William Saliba described his 12-month spend at the Club as magical and will not forget about the time spent even if he did not play for them again.
When he was quizzed to describe his 12 months stay at Olympique Marseille in one word, He replied: ‘Surprising.. or magical.
‘It’s my first full season. I was keen to show who I am. It’s a very positive assessment and I’m very happy with my season.
‘And that’s why I had this little lump in my stomach saying to myself: ‘Here you go to a club and you mustn’t laugh, you mustn’t have fun, you must play every game thoroughly.
‘It’s as if I stayed at least two or three years, it’s really special. Even if I don’t come back to Marseille, I’ll never forget. Thanks to OM, I took a great course in my career and it was they who boosted me.’
Will William Saliba get the opportunity at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta?
Mikel Arteta seems to prefer the defensive partnership of Ben White and Gabriel Magalhães this season. the pair were excellent last season helping Arsenal finish fifth in the Premier League.
Arteta last in an interview had said it was the right decision to loan William Saliba to Marseille as the 21 years old would not have got enough playing time with Ben White and Gabriel around.
He said: “If he had stayed with us this year, with a Premier League a week, with Ben White and Gabriel, he wouldn’t have had half the playing time he had with Marseille, that’s for sure. For his growth and what he can do next season that wouldn’t have been good.
“William wasn’t with us because he wouldn’t have had the playing time to gain experience. That’s it, there’s nothing else.”
Time will tell if Saliba can break through the Arsenal starting lineup after such an impressive season with Olympique de Marseille. The French international can also be the backup for Ben White and Gabriel with Arsenal competing in Europe this season.
