Born Rodrigo Jacques Alcala-Buquor on August 23, 1943, the notorious American serial killer was the third of four children born to a Mexican American couple. Growing up, he spent his early years in Mexico before he and his family relocated to Los Angeles when he was 8. At the age of 17, Rodney enlisted in the Army in 1961 to become a paratrooper and served as a clerk. Rodney Alcala made his first strike on September 25, 1968, by luring an 8-year-old girl, Tali Shapiro, into his car, then took her to his Los Angeles home and brutally beat and sexually assaulted her.
