When is a Bernedoodle Full Grown?
SHARE

If you’ve been considering getting an adorable Bernedoodle or recently acquired one, you are probably wondering at what age they are full-grown. Bernedoodle puppies tend to grow quickly, and you’re probably worried they will outgrow their crate. However, this can be quite a challenging question because every Bernedoodle puppy grows at a different pace. Some might grow fast at the start and then stop, and some slowly grow and then shoot up at their last growth spurt. It is all up to you if you want a full-grown Bernedoodle or a small one; neither of them is the correct answer; it is all based upon what you want.

Is the Bernedoodle a Large Breed?

A Dog breed that averages between 50 and 90 lbs and is at least 24 inches at the shoulder is considered a large breed. Because the standard Bernedoodle averages between 70 to 90 pounds and 23 to 29 inches, they are considered large breed dogs.

Any dog breed that averages over 90 lbs is considered to be a giant breed. The American Kennel Club (AKC) considers the Bernese Mountain Dog a large breed, even though some are less than 90 lbs.

However, some Bernedoodles are known to grow to be more than 100 lbs, which places them in the giant breed category.

Bernedoodle Size Expectations

  • A Toy or Tiny Bernedoodle stands less than 17 inches at the shoulder (50 cm) and weighs less than 24 lbs (22 kg).
  • A Miniature Bernedoodle will grow to around 18-22 inches (46-56 cm) at the shoulder. They weigh between 24-49 lbs (11-22 kg).
  • The Standard Bernedoodle can stand up to 23-29 inches (58-75 cm) at the shoulder and weigh between 70-90 lbs (31-40 kg)

Factors That May Affect a Bernedoodle’s Growth

You may want to consider some things when looking at Bernedoodle puppies for sale. If you plan to adopt one, you should look at the list below and go through it so that you can understand your puppy.

  • Gender: Females typically reach their full height and weight faster than males.
  • Size Expectancy: The larger dogs take much longer to grow than smaller dogs. That is because small dogs don’t have as much growing to do to reach a height.
  • Litter Size: Larger litters tend to have smaller pups, while the smaller litters have much larger ones. The litter size can be a crucial factor in the growth rate of any dog.
  • Individual Breed Standards: Some breeds of dogs grow much slower or faster than the average dog of the exact same size.
  • Nutrition and Exercise: Dogs that get the proper nutrition and exercise will grow more steadily and faster than another dog being fed on a poor diet that doesn’t meet all of its needs.

How to Know When Your Bernedoodle is Done Growing

The best way to know if your Bernedoodle is indeed done growing is to monitor their weight and height regularly from the time they come into your home.

You should leave a monthly measurement day and track the different sizes. When your Bernedoodle is about one year old, you should notice that his height growth starts to taper off and may even stop entirely. This is about when height growth is complete, but they may not be finished growing at the moment.

Conclusion

The question was: When is a Bernedoodle full-grown? Well, Bernedoodle sare somewhat of a wildcard when it comes to maturity and growth. It does not matter how fast or slow your Bernedoodle is growing. You can always keep him feeling like a puppy at every stage of his life as long as he has the proper exercise, nutrition, and words of affirmation.
