Temporary or semi-permanent structures don’t mean substandard buildings built using low-quality materials. These structures are durable and built using high-quality materials, and with a few modifications, they can be used for residential purposes.

Temporary buildings also have more benefits than permanent structures such as traditional brick-and-mortar houses. Modern businesses leverage temporary structures to expand without attracting too much risk. These structures come in handy whenever there is a need for extra space during peak business seasons or in emergency cases.

Below we will look at some of the things you need to know about temporary structures including the available options on the market.

The Best Temporary Building Option

There are plenty of options when it comes to temporary building solutions. The most common option is industrial tents, which is surprisingly the cheapest solution. Industrial tents come with metal support beams and the walls are made from high-quality material that can withstand harsh weather conditions.

The setup time for industrial tents is also short depending on the size. You may not need planning permission to set up an industrial tent in most instances. Always check the source and what the laws in your state say to be on the safe side.

Another option available is temporary steel buildings. Temporary steel buildings are better than industrial tents, and with extra modification, can be used for residential purposes. Most people add extra cladding to the walls to make the structure more conducive.

Planning Permissions and Permits

Do you need planning permissions or building permits when setting up temporary buildings? Planning permits and building regulations may vary from one state to another. However, the rules may change when it comes to temporary structures.

There are a couple of reasons why you may need planning permissions for your temporary structures. You will need permits if you plan to use the structure for more than four weeks. If the floor space exceeds 100 square meters, you will also need to apply for permits from the relevant authorities.

Another factor that may force you to get permits is if the structure occupies more than 25% of the property area. If it is an extension of a warehouse or factory, you will also need to apply for a planning permit.

Applying for permits can take four to eight weeks to get approval. The application process is quite hectic, so we would encourage you to work with a construction expert. However, if your application is rejected, you must correct the mistakes and reapply.

Renting vs. Buying

This is always a big question, especially when choosing the suitable options that work for you without blowing up your budget. However, both options have pros and cons depending on how you plan to use the structure.

Renting is always a good option if you use the structure for a short period, like less than six months. On the other hand, buying can be an option if you use the structure for the long term.

Buying a temporary structure such as an industrial tent can be great as you can lease it out for extra cash when you are not using it. They are also versatile as tents can be used to set up warehouses, classrooms, or indoor arenas.

Wrapping Up

Temporary buildings are a great solution if you are looking for a cheaper solution in the building and construction market. Take the time to review the options available on the market before making your decision. You can also consult a construction expert to help you choose the right option.

Semi-permanent structures have plenty of advantages over conventional brick-and-mortar structures. The structures are portable, a plus for businesses operating on leased properties. The setup time is also short and cheap compared to when building another type of structure.
