What to Do If You’re Locked Out of Your Property

There’s nothing worse than finishing work, fighting your way through the concrete jungle, just to find that you can’t get inside your house. Whether you’ve left your keys inside, dropped them in the street, or left them at work, there’s nothing more daunting than the unattainable dream of slouching on the sofa with a lovely cup of coffee. If this sounds all too familiar, we’ve got you covered with the following tips.

Phone a Friend

Hopefully, you live with a family member, friend, or partner, and can call them to see if they can rescue you with their keys. Alternatively, if you pay rent, you should be able to contact your agent and beg them to come and let you in with the spare key. Alternatively, rack your brain to remember whether you left a key with a neighbour while you were on holiday.

Check for Open Windows

If it’s warm outside, you may have left one of your windows open, which means you stand a chance of getting inside. However, if you’re climbing the side of your building to enter your home, be prepared for people to assume you’re breaking in – don’t be alarmed if the police show up on your doorstep.

Turn to a Neighbour

Being locked out of your property is the perfect reason to form a positive rapport with your neighbours, as they may be able to let you help you out. If you’re in luck, your neighbour will be handy and might be able to get you in. Alternatively, you can ask for a screwdriver and try to get in yourself. Finally, if you’re waiting for a locksmiths Cardiff or a loved one, they can provide a warm place for you to sit – you might even get to have that coffee you long for.

Dismantle the Door Handle

If you can get some tools from a neighbour, you could try taking apart the door handle. However, you should keep in mind that they all fit together with slightly different mechanisms, so pull up a YouTube video for correct instructions. Once you’ve successfully got inside, it’s important to put it back together to keep unwanted visitors away.

Break In

If for some reason you can’t get in touch with an emergency locksmith based in Cardiff, then you’re left with no choice but to break in. If you’ve got a back door, we suggest breaking in there to avoid causing a scene. Once you’re inside, we suggest having a professional locksmith put everything back together again.

Contact a Locksmith

Before breaking into your home or injuring yourself by climbing through an open window, you should get in touch with Curley Locks, which is a 24-hour Cardiff locksmith. They will make sure you get inside without damaging the locks, meaning you can reclaim your keys.

Getting in locked out is never ideal, especially when you know where they are. After you’ve asked family and friends who may have a key, you should call a locksmith to come and rescue you.
