1 in 10 teenagers in India faces some issues or the other in terms of addiction or mental health. It is very easy for youngsters and young adults to get involved with drugs, alcohol, smoking cigarettes, marijuana, and other recreational drugs, especially because there is no source to identify or trace its circulation in schools, colleges, and in the general streets.
Although the authority of police and government is working hard in controlling young adults from falling prey to addiction, there is only so much they can do. Rehabilitation centers have come up in many cities where the drug addiction problem has become popular in India.
A rehabilitation center can help teenagers and adults in recovering from addiction to drugs, alcohol, and other such practices that may pose detrimental health risks.
What are Rehabs?
Rehabs or rehabilitation centers help people recover from drug abuse or alcohol indulgence and other lifestyle issues such as the use of recreational drugs and psychedelic drugs. The rehab centers can either be inpatient, where the patient is constantly monitored, given therapy and treatments, or it can be outpatient, where the patient visits the center frequently to consult with a Deaddiction Specialist for therapy sessions and to monitor progress.
Rehabilitation is not only limited to drug usage and alcohol patients but also for adults and children who face mental illness in the form of bipolar disorders, OCD disorders, Schizophrenia, Anger issues, Depression, and many other mental health problems that need therapy, attention, and treatment.
Just like de-addiction rehab centers, mental health rehabilitation can also be in-patient or out-patient based on the treatment prescribed by the psychiatrists or the preference of the patients in some conditions.
What is the Process adopted for rehabilitation for patients?
In a rehabilitation center, there are many doctors, specialists, nurses, and attendees that can help patients with their treatment. The treatment is undertaken based on the requirement and the condition of the patient. This varies from patient to patient and the condition.
For deaddiction, there are special doctors and deaddiction specialists who formulate a plan based on their investigation and preliminary examination. For mental health patients, this is slightly different. Mental health patients are taken care of by psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, etc.
The examination usually combines medical tests, scans, preliminary health investigations, which are then used to chart the course of the treatment.
Below are some of the common processes adopted by rehab centers in general:
- Admission and Examination
The first initial step is to start with a physical examination which may include blood work, scans, and other tests based on the condition. This helps the doctor to understand the patient’s health and the treatment course to be followed. - Detox Process
The second step is to detoxify the patient’s body of all toxic material such as alcohol, drugs, or any such infiltrants. In mental health patients, this is done only if it is required. - Therapy Sessions
Once the intake of toxic substances stops, the patient is put under treatment with therapy sessions and medicines to control the urges. For mental health patients, medicinal treatment and therapy are provided.
- Rehabilitation
The patients are either advised to remain within the center for continuous examination or can be asked to visit regularly based on their health condition.
- Monitoring and Follow-ups
Regular follow-up and therapy sessions are conducted post-rehabilitation as well to help the patient stay on track.
