This past year eCommerce has skyrocketed. If I look back to how many times I bought something online and multiply that by everyone else in the world. I realize online commerce is the future. If I were to start my own online business I would need to know how to do that. What I learned is, to get started. I need specialized software and a platform that will set up a shopping experience on my website. Adobe Commerce owns such a platform and that is Magento.
What is Magento?
Magento is an open-source, eCommerce, CMS (Content Management System j platform. That is a lot of technical jargon, but basically, Magento is a platform that allows online merchants to sell their goods. With Magento, I can design an eCommerce experience that is specific to my company’s needs, and manage the content related to the products. So if I have a product or two to sell on my website, either as a B2B or B2C company, Magento is a platform that provides the technology to do so. It develops the shopping experience, the shopping cart, payment, shipping, and customer service systems for my online business.
What do I need to know about Magento?
First, it is important to understand what an open-source platform is. Magento released its source code under a license that allows all the users of its platform to modify the code to meet their specific needs. This is not a one size fits all platform. According to Commonolaces.com. Each company can make changes to the code and apply it to their website. This community of designers keeps the platform current and gives a company some flexibility.
Second. Magento is available with two options.
- Open Source Magento is a free application that most businesses can use. It is a perfect eCommerce platform to design for your company. Which will help you design your eCommerce and Content Management systems as your company grows. 2. Magento Commerce is a paid eCommerce platform that is best suited for large companies like Nike. (I do not know if Nike uses Magento. it is just an example of the size of the company I am referring to). According to Adobe Commerce, Magento Commerce’s fees are based on your average gross merchandise value. You will need to get a personalized quote from Magento on Adobe Commerce, the current owner of Magento.
Who Uses Magento?
So; now that you know. What is Magento? You understand that it is not to be confused with the color magenta. Which I can only imagine may happen in some searches on google. It is clear to me that anybody who has an online business with products to sell needs to investigate eCommerce platforms. It is wonderful that there is a free option available. especially as a new business owner. It is so expensive to start an online business, The fees for services add up. According to Commonplacecs.com. in 2019 Magento had 30% of the total market share. It is not just any free service; it is well tested and reviewed by many companies of all types.
