In the last several weeks, conservative groups in West Virginia have been urging Manchin to maintain his unwavering opposition to the proposal, which can only be enacted through a process known as budget reconciliation that requires support from only one political party. Given that both parties hold an equal number of seats in the Senate, having Manchin’s support is essential to the initiative’s chances of being successful.
A political consultant in West Virginia named Greg Thomas stated, “Joe is most definitely hearing from a variety of different folks.” A large number of local and national groups with a presence in Manchin’s region are also making an effort to get in touch with him.
The pressure campaign has chosen a two-pronged strategy to put pressure on Democrats by simultaneously praising Manchin for derailing previous versions of the budget deal and warning that goodwill may expire overnight. This strategy is part of the campaign’s choice to warn that goodwill may expire overnight.
