Viola Davis is a well-known American film actress and producer who was born on August 11, 1965, in St. Matthews, South Carolina, United States of America, under the zodiac sign Leo, with the nationality of American and of black ethnicity. The actress was born to Mary Alice Davis, a maid factory worker, and Civil Rights Movement activist, and his father Dan Davis, a horse trainer. She was born to her parents on her grandmother’s farm on the Singleton Plantation. Davis has five siblings, of which she is the second-youngest. Her parents moved to Central Falls, Rhode Island with two of her elder siblings, shortly after she was born, leaving her other siblings with her grandparents.

At the age of two, Davis was taken into police custody with her mother during a civil rights protest. She describes her upbringing as a difficult one for her because her family was poor and she was living in a run-down apartment in Rhode Island. She is the second cousin of the famous actor Mike Colter, who is known for portraying the Marvel Comics character, Luke Cage.
