Thomas Tuchel has been answering reporters questions at the press conference on Friday, ranging from a whole lot of issues from players’ contracts situations to Chelsea sales and the mood of Romelu Lukaku.
He expressed his joy that Cesar Azpilicueta has triggered a clause extending his contract for one year at the Stamford Bridge.
He added,’ Winning every title and having this change of ownership, it could be that it feels for him like the end of the story here,’ said Tuchel. ‘But it does not necessarily have to be like this. We have the contract now, we can rely on him and make him stay.
We heard the same rumors,’ smiled Chelsea’s head coach. Antonio Rudiger is also nearing the end of his contract, unable to sign a new deal until the club is sold, and his agent has also been spotted in Barcelona.
‘I would try to meet him if I was any other club,’ said Tuchel. ‘He’s still our player. We still think there’s a good chance he stays once things are solved.
‘At the moment, our hands are tied. Fair enough if it’s true that he listens to other offers, but I am still confident.’
Tuchel confessed he didn’t know much about the other candidates in the race to buy the club from Roman Abramovich, who was forced to sell after the British government froze his assets because of his close ties with Putin. He has no desire to meet any of them.
‘It’s better not to be involved,’ said the German. ‘I cannot change anything.’
When he was asked about Lukaku’s potential move to Inter this summer he said: ‘we don’t reflect on it, the situation at the moment is Chelsea can’t talk to players, not buy and sell players’,
‘We don’t need to think about it, this is the players we have and Romelu plays a big part in it’.
He added ‘Lukaku has spent a whole week off, he is motivated and training well. I have to Looked at the fixture and we don’t need to distract and be disappointed’
