Two people were apprehended and charged with drug-related offenses in South Carolina after authorities allegedly discovered cocaine concealed within a fake pregnant belly worn by one of the suspects.
Last month, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, its Special Investigation Division and Directed Surveillance Unit were conducting “proactive patrol” along Interstate 85 when they stopped Anthony Miller and Cemeka Mitchem.
The sheriff’s office reported that deputies became suspicious when Miller and Mitchem provided contradictory information about Mitchem’s purported due date.
When Mitchem realized sheriff’s deputies were beginning to doubt her narrative, she attempted to flee, resulting in the drugs falling out of the rubber belly.
During the traffic stop, the sheriff’s office reported on Facebook that over 1,500 grams of cocaine were seized.
Both Miller and Mitchem are charged with trafficking more than 400 grams of cocaine. According to jail records, the arrests occurred on April 12.
Both are being held without parole at the Anderson County Jail. According to South Carolina law, the pair faces up to 30 years in prison and a $200,000 fine if convicted.
