According to the authorities, a 5-year-old Milwaukee boy who accidentally shot himself with a gun and died on Tuesday has led to the arrest of two individuals.
According to Milwaukee police, the incident occurred in the 900 block of South 29 Street shortly before 8:30 p.m.
Elijo Gonzales, the youngster, was taken in critical condition and later passed away at a nearby hospital.
According to the police, two men, ages 35 and 58, were arrested for leaving a handgun unattended. The two men’s relationship with the child wasn’t immediately obvious.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office was tasked with investigating possible criminal charges against the two individuals.
On Twitter, Milwaukee’s mayor, Cavalier Johnson, described the boy’s passing as “very distressing.”
The mayor added, “Please keep your firearms in a gun safe, with a gun lock, and out of the reach of youngsters.”
According to confirmation from school administrators to the station, Gonzalez attended Seeds of Health Elementary School.
Elijo was a charismatic, active student who loved studying and brought joy to his family and friends, according to a statement from his school. “We extend our condolences to our families and the community as we mourn this loss.”
