Early Life

Lesane Parish Crooks, famously known by his stage name Shakur Tupac, was a well-known American rapper, songwriter, and actor born on June 16, 1971, in East Harlem, New York, United States of America, under the zodiac sign Gemini, of American nationality, and black ethnicity. His parents changed his name from Lesane Parish Crooks to Tupac Amaru Shakur when he was one year old.
He was named after Tupac Amaru II, the son of the last Incan ruler. He was killed in Peru in 1781 after a failed revolt against Spanish rule. Tupac was born to Afeni Shakur, a t member of the Black Panther Party and political activist, and Billy Garland, a black activist who was also a member of the Black Panther Party. Several of his other family members were also involved with the Black Panthers, and many were convicted of crimes and imprisoned.
He is the brother of Sekyiwa Shakur, Mopreme Shakur, Nzingha Shakur, Chinua Shakur, Takerra Allen, and Landon Garland. In 1984, the family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where Shakur went to Roland Park Middle School and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. In the tenth grade, he was transferred to the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he pursued acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet. He became friends with actress Jada Pinkett, who became the subject of his poem. In 1988, Tupac moved to Marin City, California, a poor San Francisco Bay Area town. He went to high school in nearby Mill Valley at Tamalpais High School, where he was in several plays. Shakur did not complete high school but eventually obtained his G.E.D.
Career
Shakur Tupac started his career with the stage name MC New York in 1989 after he began recording his songs. He began attending poetry classes with Leila Steinberg that same year, and she later became his manager. She organized a concert for Tupac and his rap group, “Strictly Dope.” Gregory hired him as a roadie and backup dancer for the Underground in 1990.
He made his group debut as 2Pac on the 1991 single “Same Song.”Late in 1991, Shakur released “2Pacalypse Now,” his first studio album as a solo artist. It served as the debut for the tracks “Trapped,” “If My Homie Calls,” and “Brenda’s Got a Baby.” Shakur’s commentary on subjects like racism, police brutality, and poverty on the album helped to establish him as a fierce social critic. Shakur’s second studio album, “Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.,” which featured the hit singles “Keep Ya Head Up” and “I Get Around,” was released in the early part of 1993. With the release of his first album, 2Pacalypse Now, in 1991, known for its conscious rap lyrics, he became well-known in West Coast hip hop. Shakur’s following two albums, Me Against the World (1995) and Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z. (1993), were both well received by critics and sold well. In favor of tense gangster rap, his 1996 Diamond-certified album All Eyez on Me abandoned his introspective lyrics.
In addition to his music career, Shakur became well-known as an actor. He starred in movies like Juice in 992, Poetic Justice in 1993, Above the Rim in 1994, Bullet in 1996, Gridlock’d come in 1997, and Gang Related in 1997. His third studio album, “Me Against the World,” placed at number one on the Billboard 200 and launched the singles “Dear Mama,” “So Many Tears,” and “Temptations.” The following year, Shakur’s “All Eyez on Me,” which peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, had another massive hit. It included the hit singles “How Do U Want It” and “California Love.” This would be Shakur’s last album to be publicly available. Later, several albums, including “The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory,” “Still I Rise,” and “Pac’s Life,” was made available posthumously.
Shakur had a hip-hop group named Thug Life that he founded in late 1993 in addition to his solo career. Big Syke, Macadoshis, the Rated R, and Shakur’s stepbrother Mopreme were also members of the group. The group only released one album, “Thug Life: Volume 1,” in 1994. Shakur was given an eight-month sentence for sexual assault in 1995, but he was let out while his case was appealed. After he got out of prison, he joined Death Row Records, run by Marion “Suge” Knight, and participated in the growing fight between East Coast and West Coast hip-hop.
Greatest Hits, a double-length album that came out after Shakur’s death in 1998, has been certified as a Diamond album in the U.S. It is one of only nine hip-hop albums to get this honor. Since Shakur died, five more albums have come out, including his well-known posthumous album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (1996), which was released under Makaveli. All of these albums have been certified Platinum in the U.S. Shakur was admitted to the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame in 2002. In his first year of eligibility, 2017, he got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone named Shakur one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Death
During the latter stages of his career in 1994, Shakur was shot five times in the lobby of a recording studio in New York. A few others were robbed and attacked at Quad Studios in Times Square. Later, he got into legal problems and was imprisoned. He suspected that the shooting was a setup, as he had been offered money to come to the studio by music manager James Rosemond. Shakur also claimed that two East Coast rival rappers, Sean Combs, and the Notorious B.I.G., were involved in the attack.
On September 7, 1996, he was shot four times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas by an unidentified assailant; he died six days later after being taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and placed on life support. Because of their ongoing public feud, the Notorious B.I.G., Shakur’s friend-turned-enemy, was initially considered a suspect in his death. He was killed six months later in a drive-by shooting in March 1997 while visiting Los Angeles.
